Decisions decisions!! Lol

Friend of mine locally had it, got it somewhere in California, no reaction to vinegar, nothing really from scratching, appears fairly nuetral

Maybe it's a meteorite. We need to find out what kind of rock this is! Holler to a rock expert here on the forum.

Vinegar test passed but its also a weaker test. Have you tried Muriatic Acid. Next to testing in the tank and then checking the parameters, the acid would be the next closest thing. It does look interesting though. It looks like Live Rock. Well its perhaps dead rock now, lol.

Its lace rock, some of it can react, most wont. I use it to create mountains, and taller stacks with caves. It goes so nicely together. check out my 40B rainbow tank in my sig, the hill on the right is made using lace rock.

very true statement about vinegar and Muriatic acid, however in my opinion its totally safe to use rocks that have a mild reaction to muriatic acid. for example Manten stone from ADA will have a mild reaction so will most lime based stones and they are heavily used in the hobby. Asides from keeping those rocks in a CRS/TB Shrimp tank (or other demanding shrimp) you are going to be just fine with stones that have a mild reaction since we change water on the weekly bases. sure not all rocks are safe, but for the most part the vinegar test is more than sufficient, a little ph test at water changes tell alot as well
