Where to buy black lava rock?

I want to buy black lava rock of varying sizes, maybe 30-40 lbs or so.

Is there a good place to order this?

Our local landscape store doesn't have it.

Most of the bigbox stores (lowes, home depot, etc.) should have it with their landscaping materials, a few bucks for a bag or so.

I'm surprised your landscaper supply doesn't have it,it's a fairly common thing.

The coarser black lava is often sold for fire pits, bar-b-ques and similar use.

Around here there are quite a few rock yards, masonry stores and so on. Call all of them and ask for the size particles you want.

Yes, I've contacted a lot of them in my area (AL) without luck... I haven't found one with large black rocks (4"-12") yet...

oh.

yeah, most of the bagged stuff is like, 1"-3" or so (guessing).

sounds like you are looking at cobble sized pieces, which aren't as common.

See if you can find a rock yard/stone supply/landscape supply company in the area that sells bulk rocks (usually by the pound, ton, or cubic yard).

They might have some?

I see plenty of the large gravel/pebble size (what is typically bought in the bags), sometimes you can get the finer stuff (1/4" or so) that's used to cover the soil for potted plants and such, and I sometimes see the boulder sized pieces that are used as landscape accents.

My petco has lots!! I get all my big pieces there. They have black, too. It's not that 'scaped' stuff with the holes in it, though.

I remember when that was a popular rock for landscaping and was everywhere. for a tank a few years ago I went to about a dozen different garden centers until I found 1 that had a huge supple of the stuff in a huge range of sizes. my advice is keep visiting different garden shops and you will find it eventually.
