Photos of tanks with different size gravel...

I'm setting up a new tank and I want the substrate to look very natural like the bottom of a slow moving river, where different size sand and gravel would be deposited by the flow of current. Does anyone have Ny pics or experience doing this? I'm thinking of using sand, small gravel, A mid sized gravel and maybe a bit of smal pebbles.

Peter Scott wrote a book called the Complete Aquarium. The book focused on creating aquariums with specific river systems in mind. Lets say you wanted to recreate a river found in South East Asia, he would show you how to build the substrate, plants and livestock. The describes the type of sand and rocks to use for each river system. He had some amazing pictures of tanks from 20 years ago.

I liked the look of pebbles mixed with sand so much I tried it in two of my tanks. I am still trying to get the effects he did, I am not even close. Check it out at you local library.

Have an open mind, but not so open that your brains fall out.
