I got wood!!!

Get your minds out of the gutter.
I was give two nice pieces of Malaysian drift wood. So how do I get the tannins out I have one soaking in a 5gal bucket right know in hot water I dumped it out once and the color of the water was dark. If I swap out the water every hour and let it set in the water over night you think this might take a day or so. How bad is tannins in the tank. I do a 50% WC every week.

Is there a fast way to get this done?

Do I need to add water conditioner to the water that the wood is soaking?

I don't know where I'm going but I'm on my way.

Boiling helps speed the process, but it still takes time. Last piece I did was left soaking for two weeks, water changed every 2 days on average. Continued getting some tannins for the next few weeks in the tank (only 25% wc weekly).

Boiling tho not personally done seems to help faster break the tannins, and just sticking in the tank is going to take much longer than a day or two I have had them "leak" for weeks depending on the piece. Tannins specifically block the light going thru the water. With that said depends on the application and what you are trying to achieve...crystal clear water? keep soaking or boiling maybe as long as a week or two.

I've boiled Malaysian driftwood for a couple hours continuously changing water every thirty minutes and reboiled. Never had water turn brown in my tanks.

The driftwood I have in the station tank was never boiled cause of its size but I did have it soaking for a few weeks. That one still leaks like a you know what.

Just be warned wood tends to smell a bit funky when boiled and if you smell up the house your homies will give you some sh**************t!

Thanks! Maybe Ill scratch that and just let it soak. I just changed out the water and it looked pretty clear. I'm leaven for a 24 later so it will soak for about 48hr by the time I get home. If its clear then I'll rap the plants on and put them in.

I don't know where I'm going but I'm on my way.
