Hello Planted Tank!
Thought I'd share this little tank with you guys! This forum has been a great help, I'm really happy to have stumbled upon it! I originally posted this on scapeclub.org but I wanted to share this here. I'll keep this updated as often as possible.
Before I get started I really want to throw out a huge thank you to Alan Le from TPT forums. I don't know what I'd do without that guy, I highly suggest you check him out if you need a regulator, his work is legit. Every step of the way, any question, no matter what it was i've been able to shoot him a text and he's guided me through this. Thanks bro.
This will be my first planted tank setup, I've been considering doing this for the last few years and finally settled down in OC so the time is right!
I really fell in love with Takashi Amano's Iwagumi style setups, majority of my inspiration is from his work.
My setup is as follows:
Eheim 2217 + Lily pipes, might switch to stainless pipes.
BML Nature Style 6500K - XB Series + SoLunar controller
Alan Le's Custom built stainless steel dual stage + solenoid, sitting on a 20lb tank i took from work. lol
DIY Cerges Reactor (might be switching this out)
Seiryu Stone, acid washed.
ADA Amazonia + Power Sand + Powder
Dry ferts, macro/micro, possible auto doser later on.
Possible apex controller?
Majority of the equipment is out of the way.
Todo list (Nov 3rd 2015): I want to switch to clear tubing, using the eheim stuff that came with the filter. I ordered the hanging part to hang the LED's so it's no longer sitting on the tank as you see in the photo. I've started to do a little hardscaping, not quite sure how i feel about it right now… Still deciding on flora and fauna. Suggestions highly welcomed!
nothing purchased, yet. still hearing opinions and deciding
Start Date: Nov 2, 2015.
11.13.15 - 15 mins after planting
Nov 3rd, 2015:
Alan Le's co2 regulator!
There's a piece of styrofoam on the back of the tank. I need to remove some artwork on the wall there thats slightly distracting.
DIY Cerge's Reactor.
Ball valve on the outflow of the system only as I didn't see a need to restrict flow in.
Nov 5th, 2015: Waiting on the SoLunar controller and hanging brackets for the light which should be here tomorrow (Friday, Nov 6th). Aiming on getting some plants started on Saturday afternoon, if not Sunday for sure.
SoLunar + Brackets
Nov 6th, 2015: Tore down hardscape after walking past the tank for the last few days and wasn't completely pleased with the layout. Paralytic Analysis ensues.
Nov, 10th, 2015:
Tank is flooded! I'm doing a fish less cycle, no plants with Seachem Stability and dechlorinating my tap water using Prime until the RO system comes in in the future.
Super cloudy! Approximately 15 minutes after the flood.
TDS on my tap:
I've been testing the last few days and seen it as low as 123, up to 240. I took this reading at 1:35AM not sure if that has anything to do with it at all.
Playing with lighting still using the SoLunar controller. It's quite clunky to say the least - took me a good 10 minutes of playing with it to get the hang of it. There's preset profiles already on the controller itself… I'm probably going to use this schedule for now after the cycle completes.
Overall, I really like the lights. (Thanks BML!) They're coming out with "SoLunar power strip" soon to eliminate the need for wall timers, but I currently have a digital timer connected to the ballast of the light to turn the light off and on directly before and after the photo period later on. The controller takes care of the ramping nicely. There's a really nice Speed Up feature on the clock to watch your programs run their course. Pretty cool feature.
Nov 13, 2015,
Finally found some DHG!
15 mins after planting, water is still cloudy
I'll be plating Blyxa later. Running co2 at 2-3 bubbles per sec. Lights are on a 8 hour photo period.
I hate the way the little co2 checker looks, but it'll stay for now. Still gotta take down that crap behind the tank, I'm so lazy.
