Journey to Bonsai Mountain

I recently had some friends/neighbors move and they donated a Spec V to me. I had been wanting to do something like a bonsai as part of a hardscape, so chose this as my opportunity.

To build up the substrate, I started with some lava rock

Next, I added some Contrasoil. I haven't tried this before, but the price was right for a small grain, which is what I wanted.

Next, some Seiryu stone

HC is added with the bonsai skeleton. I originally tried to get a mat from Natebuchholz, but he was out, so I ordered some of the new tissue culture plants from 1 pot looked excellent, but the 2nd was complete mush. They refunded the cost since they didn't expect any more for several weeks. Fortunately, by this point Nate was able to hook me up. I just got his shipment today and it looked great. I am doing a DSM with water that has some EI powdered ferts mixed in and a Chihiro 501 light. I plan on flooding in 2-3 weeks. I just want some roots on the plants. I will be adding some chopped up Fissidens fontanus to the bonsai in a couple of days.
