This aquarium was rescaped for a time laps photo project I wanted to do and learn from.
The idea was to experiment and evaluate camera position, settings, lighting, time of day to take photo, what is distracting and so on.
With the picture archive I will be selecting the best and creating a 60 day or longer time laps movie.
All pics below were random selections from each date taken, cropped and sized for web viewing
Also this system was set up with equipment identical to another aquarium I have posted on this forum.
All plant material will be from other or previous systems and are acclimated to this environment and level or type of care, so I expect it to grow well with few if any problems.
No fish were added during the first 60 days I found them distracting on a previous photo project
All pictures were taken with an olympus stylus 300 digital point and shoot camera. No high tech gear yet!
No water parameter testing of any kind was performed.
Notation below pictures
Example 2n,3k,0.5p,1fe = 2 ml of n, 3 ml k , 0.5 ml p, 1 ml fe
c02 = replaced - sugar 1 cup, yeast 1 tsp and 0.5 liter water mixed
fc= pleated filter change
wc = water change, about 20-40%
power clean = magnum 350 canister filter used to blow around plants and substrate to clean whatever is loose
Exact dosing is noted below each picture in this format along with short notes
• 55 gallon glass aquarium 48x12x19 high
• Marineland magnum 350 canister filter with pleated filter insert only.
• Changed and cleaned as required ”no carbon or bio filters used”
• Sun systems new wave 48” 2 bulb 6500k ho t5 light fixture with a 11 hour photo period
• Light is modified for aquarium use
• Flourite Substrate
• Laterite Substrate additive
• CoCo Gro Plugs or Peat plates “mostly for rocks to set on”
• C02 applied at filter intake. “diy. For best results use ph controlled c02 dosing”
• Custom 12 watt rear lights, 2 each , for dawn and dusk light effect.
• Black aquarium background board
• Coral life power strip and timers
• Small power head for added water flow.
• Aquarium heater Hydor inline unit on filter return line. only used if required
• U.V Inline on filter return line. in place of heater
• All plant nutrients will be Seachem products
• All water changes will be done with tap water
• Glass is cleaned as needed for photos “about every 3 days”
• Glossostigma gelatinoids
• Cryptocoryne walkeri (lutea)
Install Canister filter including supply and return lines
Substrate material ready for install
Added Latrite additive and coco gro plugs for rocks to set on
Add about half inch flourite Substrate and mix with latrite.
Graded out substrate and placed rocks as desired
Planted large rooted Cryptocoryne walkeri (lutea)
Glossostigma gelatinoids will be added after water is in display
Slowly Fill with water
Filter system is started and co2 is applied at filter intake

And I hope you found it interesting and informative.
That is pretty neat to watch how the plants grow over a certain period of time. To see it everyday, you tend to not notice the plant growth as much until it needs a trim. I would really like to see this in a movie type platform.

The movie/slideshow is in the works. It is taking time to select and crop 60-100 pics from an archive of a 1000+ pics and meld them into a decent slideshow or movie clip. Maybe another week or so before it's done.

pretty cool! That large crypt is awesome. I agree, make a slideshow so that the tank looks like it's growing really fast
The large crypt took a few years growing in a confined space "between rocks" to end up like that.
btw It was about 2x that size before I pulled it up, trimmed,washed and replanted. And I bet the roots alone fill 50% of this tanks substrate by now.
