12G Long - First Planted Tank

After a long hiatus from aquariums and seeing all the impressive planted tanks here, I decided to try my hand at a 12G long planted tank with DSM.

I planted the HC on 10/11/14. I was getting tired of misting several times per day so I cobbled together a cheap humidifier from a water jug and an air pump. Cost was right at $25 including the air line. The humidity is consistently 99% over night (@ ~72F) and drops to a low of 97% during the 12HR photoperiod (@ ~80F). I haven’t had to mist for several days. Keeping an eye on things is about all I do any more.

The HC is growing well – approximately double the coverage in 11 days.

Specs to Date:
Mr. Aqua 12 Gallon Long Aquarium
Mr. Aqua MA-333 LED Light
Current USA Single Ramp Timer
Amazonia Substrate (~10 Liters)

Your first planted tank?!

Man, I wish I started off this good. You've got some talent!! Nice focal point and everything seems well balanced. The HC seems to be growing nicely too!

Are you adding any more flora? What are your plants for inhabitants?

Looks great so far! Keep the updates coming

Thank you guy's!

pewpewkittah, My wife would like a little more flora so I'll probably add a light amount of isolated stem plants once the tank is flooded. Haven't decided what though. I'm thinking a school of 10-12 Celestial Pearl Danios along with a couple shrimp choices (leaning towards Amano and RCS).

I got hit with the infamous mold/fungus. That stuff is vicious, coming on seemingly like a light switch…

Fortunately I noticed it before it did much damage and flooded the tank. Quite a few Detritus Worms surfaced (maybe 20 or so)…

I’ve had a little melting since submersion, but the HC is still growing rapidly (6 hours of light with lots of CO2). Below is a 6-day period…

Starting to get some decent coverage…

Specs to Date:
Mr. Aqua 12 Gallon Long Aquarium
Mr. Aqua MA-333 LED Light
Current USA Single Ramp Timer
Amazonia Substrate (~10 Liters)
EHEIM 2215 Canister Filter
VIV Lily Pipe – Outflow
ADA Intake Pipe
GLA PRO CO2 System – 173201
GLA Atomic CO2 Inline Diffuser
CAL Aqua Clip Nano Drop Checker
Coralife Digital Thermometer

Looks excellent. The contrast between the rocks and the HC is gorgeous. I think keeping this scape minimalistic would be beautiful, but that's just my two cents! Looking forward to the updates
