20G Native Planted

This is my second attempt at plants overall and the first attempt in this tank. Hoping I'll do better this time around since I've learned from my past mistaked. I'm still very new to planted tanks though so please feel free to give any and all advice, comments, help, tips, etc. that you'd like!

Tank: 20 Gallon High Native Planted Creek Tank
Dimensions: 24" X 12" X 16"
Lighting: Single Strand T8 (12-14 hours daily)
Substrate: Pool Filter Sand (#20 Grade) mixed with a small amount of loose gravel from my local creek.
Filter: Sponge Filter (50 Gallon Size Sponge)
Stock: 2 Rainbow Darters, 2 Greenside Darters, 1 Pugnose Minnow, 1 Bluefin Killifish, (also looking to add a school of 5-8 Shiners or Dace very soon).
Plants: Hornwort and Water Sprite
Fertilizers, CO2, etc: Nothing as of now (looking for some advice from you guys.

Can't upload any images for some reason so that'll have to wait but here's a video on the tank: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zlf...K8Ygtjp3kT_noA

Any advice for a newbie to plants?

I'm mainly a US Natives and any Catfish guy but I keep all kinds of fish and I'm starting to get into plants.

Tank is coming along great already! The hornwort has grown to the surface of the tank in no time and I'm going to have to trim it pretty soon. This is the best growth I've had in plants to date!
