5.5g Betta

A lot of changes have been made in this tank since I last posted on my original thread, so I'm going to start a new one. I battled algae and completed the One-Two Punch successfully, but it left the sand stained a brown color. I lifted and replaced the top layer and rescaped the tank. [Original thread]

Specs:
Finnex Planted+
Lee's Economy Corner Filter hooked up to a Tetra Whisper 10 air pump with flow turned down via valve
Petco 25w heater

Fauna:
Atlas the betta
various ramshorns and pond snails

I have a very similar setup... I have a 5 gallon de-rimmed aqueon bow (no cover) with the same planted + (12" one). I also had big problems with algae and constantly battle it which really sucks. I refuse to set up CO2 in an office tank this small...

Recently raised my light 6" above the tank and it seems to help out. The planted + is just too strong for a tank that shallow when you put it right on the rim (at least in my case...)

Inhabitants in mine are 1 betta and 1 otto.

I am assuming you do not use CO2?
Do you dose with anything?

Hopefully we can help each other out lol

Things have been fine since I one-two punched the algae away. I think I fixed the problem and just needed to destroy what was left.

I dose EI with excel and I have a clear cover to prevent evaporation, so I'm sure my light is dimmer now than it was without the cover.

If you find that you still have algae even after you raised the light, but no new algae (like you fixed the cause but the old algae hasn't gone away) I strongly suggest the one-two punch. With minimal fauna, just take them out for the time of the h2o2 blast (that's what I did, not problem)
