5gal DIY Acrylic Desk Tank

New Journal for another DIY Acrylic tank I just finished. This is replacing the grimy looking 2 1/2g tank I had on my desk. Using 3/4" soil/sand covered by 3/4" sand. Whisper Mini Filter. 13w 6500k PL type lamp.
Tank dims are 13" x 10" x 11"

Cute.

Is that the Walmart desk lamp?

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

It's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot.

That IS an aquascape, it's titled "The Vacant Lot".

Yep, Wal-Mart lamp, Wal-Mart filter, Wal-Mart heater,

I was making a lid for the tank but decided against it since I really like the open top look. I hope evaporation will be fairly reasonable!

The Betta is still in a breeder net in a 20g tank while this tank cycles. The soil/sand substrate is going to produce ammonia for a little more than just a few days. I've got some guppies in there that seem to be able to handle it, though.

He's not in the Pothos Vase, don't worry about that!

Where did you find black silica sand for cheap?! All I can find is that $12-20lb Tahitan Moon Sand... :?

Sorry for going off topic, but cute tank...A pair of Killis would be nice?

Very cute, Gulf. Actually, pretty professional looking (black background, eco-complete?) for such a little tank.

Where is the canister filter? Externeal heater? UV sterilizer?

I actually had a LFS order the black silica sand. $8.49 for a 20lb bag!

A pair of killies would definitely be neat in there! Dunno if they'd get along with the betta for whom the tank was constructed, though!

No high-tech stuff for this tank, uni! I'm KISS-ing this one!

I like it. I think I'm going to go for the same thing in my office. I wone a 1.5gallon red sea beta tank with mini filter and light. It's smaller than yours, but the betta should be alright in it. Killifish is a wonderful idea. You have to get a pair though. Looking good.!! :P

That looks great. You made the tank? How do you get the corners rounded like that? Looks fantastic.

Very nice looking tank sam, the mini acrylic's are very stylish... especially when they are your own creation !
If it weren't for your betta some fancy tail guppies would look sweet in there. I have been eyeballin them things lately... aint had them since I was a kid.
