It is wet... that's probably what caused to reflections. I didn't treat it with anything, it is swimming in my pond right now. I am wondering if I should bring it back to the river, tie it to something and let it soak some more, to get it less buoyant. It is huge (about 45" long), and heavy, I was suprised that it didn't sink right away.
I might set up another large tank (for it :lol later on this year...

is it true that you can dump wood into a bucket of water to leach out whatever? i know you have to do water changes, but in the texas summers, that isn't really an option anyway.
i was thinking about collecting from a building site where they clearcut the trees (common practice in this area)

People in the Bay Area have gone to China Camp in Marin county to get wood from madrone trees. They are nowhere near lakes and have not been boiled or anything. You just pick them up from the ground, rinse them off and plop them into the tank and they are just fine.
