Thanks everyone!

I am feeding them rather irregularly. I'd say on average they get a fly every day, but there can be a week where nothing buzzes around or crawls out of the attic so they just sit there and wait. In Winter, the usual (then frozen) flies are augmented with frozen mosquito larvae and the infrequent flake. Summer provides a bigger variety of "garden harvest".

Nothing lasts forever...

Blind in her old days, not eating anymore, breathing heavily, bloated and scales sticking out. In the meantime she has moved on, continuing that cycle of life in the compost heap.

I don't know her age when I got her... wild caught, I assume? Hard to tell, but definitely 10 years in my tanks.

Interestingly, her male counterpart "Mulo" who I got just a few months after Mula, is still doing great. Just a bit bored now that nobody bosses him around anymore.

Watching her feed was one of the highlights of my visits. She lived a long, happy life. I can't imagine a better tank for her to rule.

A few days ago I found the male AFB upside down, and hi is now enriching the compost heap.

So he outlived her by a few months (assuming they were about the same age when I bought them). Both definitely over 10 years old.

Something is missing in my tank now...

Anyway, just thought I'd bring this thread to its deserved closure.

They were the most intriguing fish I've ever seen in an aquarium. Watching them creep out from the top rear of your tank and knowing how lightning fast they devour their prey... the anticipation was intense.

I'm sorry for your loss. Those two lived a very long life in the most epic home tank environment imaginable.
