60 P old-school 90's Amano style

Just set up this tank today, I wanted to emulate some of Amanos older work, there is no hardscape.

I think it will look nice when it grows in

here's a few ways I directly copied Amanos old work:

I put the Ludwigia Arcuata in front of the Myrio red and then the narrow leaf Java fern in front of that.

I put the Rotala macranda in front of the mayaca

I put the Rotala magenta next to the indica

this is based on a tank he did in 1992, the foreground will be a glosso E. parvula and riccia mix

Throwback nature style, too cool. I was thinking about those old tanks while I was rattlecanning a 29 the other day. Subscribed!

I really like the idea here. Do you have a scan of the tank you are going off of. Just would be fun to see.

it's more about gently mixing the plants and letting them grow in and compete for light

Amano wants to give a natural appearance to his tanks, with nothing too manicured or distinctly heavily bordered. I remember a big tank from one of his NA books where he let glosso just take over the whole thing, I'll see if I can dig it up. Your thread is making me want to do an Amano throwback tank now!

I like your tank. much more character than the tanks with one species of carpeting amongst 4 or five overly placed stones. yours looks very natural and realistic so far. good job for being different.

this layout is similar to the 90P in John's signature, particularly before the introduction of the H. Japan; I know this because I purchased it. The tank looks significantly different now but I always admired John's work in person and he's the main reason I am now interested in planted tanks.
