Looks like you're off to a nice start!

Probably won't need the heater unless your tank water gets down into the 50s on a regular basis. Shrimp do well in cool water.

Thanks! I've got the heater so I might as well keep it in. It can get pretty cold here in the winter but not that cold!

My 10 gal used to use exactly all of your equipment in this picture. I dont know about others but my red cherry shrimp prefer cooler water. My heater is not on and the tank is 72-78 coldest would be 70. And they breeding like crazy and none jumped out like when it was 82s

That seems to be the range with my heater. Hmm. I guess I will leave it in. I just worry about the nights, since it does get quite cold in my room.

Yep, shrimp do better in cooler water. Since you have no fish, there's no need for a heater unless your tank dips into the 50s regularly.

I'd say high 60s/low 70s is ideal for shrimp.

You could try it with and without this winter to see what works best for you.

Worth a try to go without, especially since I don't even have shrimp yet. I can see how low it really gets.

I'm working on that right now. Trying to find which to buy. I'm thinking the Ultimate GH Booster from GLA

What do you think?
