I haven't been back here in a while.
56G Sarawak Blackwater Riparium
I have been working on a new riparium planting. I decided to do a new kind of riparium planting in my 56G column tank. I had a hillstream riparium planting in that tank previously...
I have used most of this same planting, but I changed the tank over to a blackwater setup more or less representative of a Sarawak forest swamp. I combined white pool filter sand with magnolia leaves to create this effect.
I already have two fish species that I believe to occur together in that kind of habitat in the wild: 1. Betta schalleri
2. Brevibora dorsiocellata
. The bettas are really cool and I have two pairs of them. This is a betta that is unlikely to get into bad fights and this small group has been getting along peacefully. The bettas are very shy, but the eyespot rasboras are small and peaceful enough that I think they will be good companions for them. I still have the rasboras in another setup while they grow up a bit larger.
Here are a few set up shots.
I do have some nice plants in there. Here is a quick list...
- Iguanura tenuis
- Licuala paludosa
- Pandanus pygmaeus
- Pilea grandifolia
- Bolbitis heteroclita
- Schismatoglottis sp.
These species are not necessarily Sarawak plants, but they combine well to create the general look of the margin of a tropical swamp.
I'll have some more shots on the way. Thanks for reading.
