Thanks! When the ug plugs were getting started some of them dislodged from the soil and started to float so I just jammed one in the crack of the rock as an experiment.

I agree about the sr. I've never had such good success with it as the first time I used it I did not have enough light to keep it compact. With the aquasky it's slammed straight to the soil! Funny I was thinking if the ug failed I might just go straight sr.

Nice setup. I've heard DSM (dry start method) is the only way to get UG to really get it's root in the substrate.

It's been a while since I've been able to update. Work has been crazy and I'm just coming off the flu...

I've been battling some sort of green thread algae for about a month now. It's decimated the plush ug carpet I had growing. I've cut the ei in half, turned up the co2, dose 5ml of excel a day and cut the light to 4hrs.

I have it on the run but it's a slow fight.

Right now I'm dosing

1/4 gh
1/16kno3
1/64 kh2po4
1/64 trace

I did a huge water change and trim, which ceased the string algae.

For me it's been cranking the c02 and dosing excel. Prior to that doing WC would only stop it but not cause it to recede.

I'm just hoping I can revive the UG. If not I think I might go back to HC.... It was much easier to work with.

Things are looking up! I've eradicated most of the algae!

I dosed 5ml excel every day, cranked the co2, cut the light to 6hrs and pulled back on the ferts and the algae is all but eradicated for now.

Pulled up a clump of ug and divided to replant in the bare areas.

Also added a fissiden to the crack of the main rock and it seems to be doing well.

Awesome update, I'm going to try your easy to kill the hair algae. My water change only slowed it down. I have already cut two it of the for bulbs off and dosed hydrogen peroxide. will dose 5 mill a day of the excel from now on instead with cranking the Co2 higher.
