I figured I'd start one of these threads just for the heck of it. I purchased this set up during the summer for a pretty sweet deal. I got the 40g breeder tank at Petco's DPG sale. Not soon after I went back and found a stand there for 12 bucks!! So the whole set up was under 70 bucks. Not bad at all. This set up was to replace my 56g column tank that I had sold online for 130 bucks.
I'm gonna plant it quite a bit, this is just the start of it, I'm just not entirely sure what I'm gonna do with it yet. I've been toying at the idea of doing both a tank thats just solely a planted tank, with no inhabitants, and doing a couple small schools of tetras, and some cory cats. something simple.
I love Rotala, so my first plant purchased is some Rotala Indica which is going to be used as the background plant. Idk if I should trim it or not? I love when it gets really tall. It looks so sweet.
I'm not trying to spend too much money on this tank, or have too many issues. But I might be adding C02 later.
I am also currently dealing with some algae...
I had bought a bit too much Rotala I think.... as I have an extra bag and I'm not sure if I should plant it or not, or just let what I have in there grow real thick and bushy looking.
Not that this has anything to do with anything.... but here's a pic of the stand. It is actually pretty nice and very sturdy. Especially considering how I got it for under 20 dollars.
I'm using eco complete for the substrate, and its still more or less a work in progess. Nothing to ride home about. I like the whole bushiness of the Rotala, and I found that Ludwigia has a really nice contrast to it, so I will be adding that in the midground later. And will be more than likely adding S. Repens in the foreground. May throw in a few crypts, too.
I know the filter I have is rather big and bulky, but it's the one I've always used and I'm kind of on a budget, so I had already decided to not change it. Anything I can do to help the tank? Suggestions?
