This is my very first attempt at an iwagumi and only my 3rd tank, I only started this aquarium obsession in April of this year.
I wanted to carpet the tank with HC, but I can't find any in my country so I'm going to try to carpet with Hemianthus (Micranthemum) micranthemoides.
So a few weeks ago I went for a drive and picked up some lava rock, literally from the side of the road, benefits of living close to volcanoes. So I put some Aquarium soil in the bottom and stuck the stones in, then I proceeded to look at it for a few weeks while looking for HC. Finally I gave up on that, about a week ago, and chopped up some HM that I had and poked it in, somewhat haphazardly. I have some new growth now. Forgot to say that I'm dry starting!!!
Size of tank is 19x39x23 CM, somewhere around 17Liters. It's an used tank that had a rim and a lid (no light) that I took off.
Lighting is daylight during the day and I also have a desk lamp with a regular old bulb that I'm planing to exchange for a daylight bulb soon.
The aquarium soil I bought in a LFS, it's sandy and has some compost or something like that, I think it's supposed to be capped. We'll just see how it goes.
Fertilizer is in the form of Flourish and water in a spray bottle, misted twice daily.
I have a small internal filter that I'm putting in after I flood, and I'm planing on experimenting with DIY Co2.
I'm probably forgetting something...
OH and Shrimps...shrimps are good
