50 gal refurbished new tank

This is my largest tank. I bought for 50 dollars in fairly poor condition but I saw the potential. Real wood stand and a tank I have never seen in a big box pet store. It was also re sealed. First thing I did was remove the old center brace and the top and side rims. I hope this is safe.... I put a new center brace on but if anyone thinks this is a bad idea let me know.

I chose what a lot of people do. The miracle grow organic soil. But I didn't choose to mineralize it. It's easier not to lol I topped it with some river pebbles I bought from lowes for 4 dollarsClick image for larger version

I like the dimensions of 50 gal tanks. They seem to be getting pretty uncommon. Nice find; a sturdy stand alone would cost well over what you paid. It looks like the tank cleaned up pretty nice! Not sure about stability; keeping some sort of center brace was a good idea; hopefully someone can chime in about the derimming; usually I've heard it recommended that a derimmed tank only be filled half full.

Thanks guys. I'll be doing a diy led lighting using grow light bulbs. I'll post those when I have time to build it.
