College Tank Refresh (Rams Spawned)

A couple of years ago, I started getting into planted tanks after seeing some amazing photos of amano's tanks online. I started my first tank at home, but I had to give that up pretty quickly because I was going away to college. Anyways, fast forward a couple of years and I am a senior now, getting ready to graduate with degrees in Government and Asian Studies, minor in business. Thinking about the past, I began to miss my tanks and since I felt the apartment could use some life, I decided to go ahead and start afresh. Now that the background info is out of the way there, to the tank.

Equipment:

11.4 gallon Mr. Aqua tank
Eheim 2211 canister filter
Archae 36 watt light fixture
Hydor 200 watt inline
Paintball CO2

Substrate:

2 bags of ecco complete

Ferts:

Dry ferts dosing ei

Fauna:

3 German Blue Rams (I had ordered a mated pair, but was given an extra female. Don't know what to do with her since I didn't expect her and don't have another tank...)

10 Chili Rasbora (on the way from msjinkzd)

Flora:

Tropica 49
Rotala Sp. Green
Ludwigia (forgot the variety)
Blyxa Japonica.

Hard Scape:

Seiryuu stone( at least that's what it was sold to me as on ebay)

This tank has been up and running about 3 weeks now. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos in the initial phases. I didn't really think about recording until just a few days ago honestly.

Now then on to to the photos (taken with a d600)

Well that's it for now. I really want to get the rotala sp. green to grow nice and thick.

You pasted the link to the image the way you view it. On Flickr you need to go to the bottom right of the image where there is the little swoopy arrow in a square. Click that and chose the BBCode option. Copy the text it gives you and paste THAT into your post. It includes the image code required to interpret the link.

I bought like 15lb, but I only ended up using around 8-9lbs here in this scape. I found that with all 15 in the tank it looked very cramped

hope that helps

Update

It's been a few days and just thought I would update. My tank is starting to get diatoms everywhere, but I guess that's nothing unexpected in the beginning. Other than that I have installed the cal aqua labs inflow and outflow pipes and added some new live stock, 11 boraras brigittae. These guys are tiny!!! I knew they were nano fish but I thought they would be similar in size to celestial pearl danios or danio erythromicron. They are much smaller. In fact, I was really scared the blue rams might have a go at them for an expensive dinner. Luckily that didn't happen but I did feed my rams before adding the boraras to make sure they weren't hungry when the little guys made their entrance. It's been a few days since then and all boraras are present and accounted for so far, fingers crossed it stays that way. Speaking of the rams, I am pretty sure they are going to spawn again tonight or tomorrow. The pair has been really busy cleaning rocks and digging wholes everywhere they dug up a good portion of my rotala sp green on one side of the tank, which I replanted only to have them dig it out again. Oh well.

Anyways here are some photos

By the way do you guys have any suggestions on what to feed these boraras? I have been feeding my rams frozen brine shrimp and flakes and it seems that the boraras nibble at both of them, but it doesn't look like they are really getting their fill. Any advice is welcome

Well it seems the rams are taking care of their eggs so far! Hopefully they don't change their minds about becoming parents like last time and develop a taste for fresh caviar. Regarding the eggs, it looks like most of them are fertilized. I only see two or three white/opaque ones out of what looks like anywhere between 50-100 eggs (hard to count because they are behind a rock and looking from the water distorts things.

In the mean time here is a FTS
