9G Office Eheim: Shrimp Added!
The invading bladderwort (or whatever it was) has been removed. I've seen one little piece since, which I also fished out.
The tank has been pretty darn solid and stable so I went ahead and got 20 cherry shrimp from a member here. First time with shrimp so I am not expecting raging success, but a learning experience. My 20 (I have no idea how many really, looks like MORE than 20 shrimp!) shrimp arrived today, two of the biggest came berried. I was amazed they didn't drop the eggs in shipping.
Drip acclimated and then moved them into the tank. Half are swimming around like wild things exploring every nook and cranny, feeding from what I can tell on algae on the glass and moss. Another about 10 maybe are clinging to the moss they came on like it was a life raft and will not let go. Won't. A bit worried about those guys but will give them some time to relax. I don't actually expect baby shrimp, I'm sure acclimation WILL cause those momma's to drop eggs, if they don't I'll be really happy.
What fun critters to watch. The tank is going to be very distracting if they are this active once they've settled in!
I'm on city water and it is definitely lacking in some of the minerals that shrimp need for molting and shells. Anyone know where I can get (at a reasonable price) the mud or mineral balls I've seen advertised for shrimp health?
