55 gallon grab bag

Yo! I've only been in this hobby for 5 months now. I started out with a .5 gallon tank with a goldfish that was won at the fair by my daughter. The goldfish lived a few months, and was replaced with a guppy. I did some reading and discovered that tank was way too small for any fish, so I bought a ten gallon kit from petsmart. I let my 3 year old daughter and one year old son pick the decor. I ended up with a fake rock, a submarine, and a Barbie.

I bought my first plant from petco shortly after. That's when the bug hit me. I never knew you could keep such beautiful plants in a fish tank. I thought the only thing you could keep was seaweed. Unfortunately the plant I bought wasn't an aquatic plant, so it had to be tossed outside when it started rotting.

3 weeks after I bought the 10 gallon kit, I picked up a 55 gallon from petco's 1$/gal sale. I slowly pieced together everything and set it up. Then I discovered plantedtank.net, which instantly turned into a deep addiction to have a beautiful tank like so many of you have. The rest is history.

Specs.-

55 gallon aquaeon tank placed on built in bookshelf in living room
Coralife t5 he with a 6500k and a 10,000k bulb
Marineland c360
5lb. Co2 tank with aquatek premium regulator and a glass diffuser

Fish-
6x Long finned blue danios
3x guppys
3x endlers
5x neon tetras
2x platys
5x otos
3x speckled corys
4x celestial pearl danios
25-30x red cherry shrimp
1x amano shrimp

Plants-

hydrocotyle sp. japan
Anacharis
Java ferns
Anubias
Xmas moss
Peacock moss
Flame moss
Amazon sword
Water wisteria
Hygrophilia compact
Blebori? Sword
rotala indica
Cabamba
Sunset Hygrophila
Dwarf sag
Foxtail
Pogostemon helfari
Dwarf hairgrass
Chain sword

Ferts-

Was dosing excel daily, but recently switched to pressurized co2.
Flourish 2x a week
Leaf zone 1x a week
Root tabs for all the root feeders

As you can see, there is no reasoning to this tank at all. It's a little bit of everything. If I saw something I liked, I stuck it in there lol. I change everything around every couple months, but I think I'm happy where I'm at right now.

Pics!!!-

The start about 4 months ago

Today-

The rock is on top of the driftwood to hold it down until its submerged. And pardon the iphone photos, it's all I got.

Future plans-

Buy a finnex ray 2 or current USA led light.

Any suggestions or comments? I will do my best to keep this updated when I can. Thanks to TPT, I love this place!

Thanks for looking!

Great tank!

Did you try placing the rock on the bottom and maybe tying the drift wood down with fishing line?

Thanks! The wood is pretty much submerged. I'm going to give it another week and it should stay down on its own. Then i can get that awful rock off of there. Good idea though!

It sure did, I tried hard to resist it but it got me. Thanks! Now I wish I had a 90 or 120 so I could have some extra depth to scape. It's tough scaling a 12" deep tank.

Yeah, that bug you originally got... It's contagious. Not only have I caught it, but I think I gave it to my niece as well. She just got her first snail today. It won't be long now. Ha ha ha!
