Hello, I was in Asia about 12 years ago, while at a nice aquarium store there, I was mesmerized by a beautiful planted tank with a nice big Amano shrimp, since then I have always wanted to setup one when I had the time. This is my first planted tank (my last tank was probably 18 years ago lol) after doing research this is my first attempt at a planted Iwagumi style nano.
These pictures are taken 4/17/13, which marks 1 month since setup.
One mistake (since I was going cheap and decided not to buy Aqua Soil New Amazonia powder to go over the top of) I have made is planting the HC Hemianthus callitrichoides (Dwarf baby tears), it uproots easily in Aqua Soil New Amazonia normal and HC require high light to grow fast (the light that came from Aquastyle isn’t too strong I think and consider the tank is tall) so the HC is growing slow (I think), plus the substrate issue. I am contemplating on going cheap and getting a bag of Carib Sea Instant Aquarium Tahitian Moon and fill over the HC to secure them, I know Tahitian Moon is inert.
The tank is 1 month old, am I being too impatient about the HC growth, since I would like the HC to carpet the area where they are in the tank…
If anyone has suggestion or advise on the HC growth in my tank feel free to advice or comment. The good thing is, the crystalwort are growing like crazy (low light req) and the Echinodorus tenellus (med light req) are growing runners.
I’ll probably do a Petco 6.6 bookshelf Iwagumi Red cherry shrimp tank or Betta tank next…
Thanks for viewing.
