Hi All! I've lurked the forums for 10 weeks and promised I would start a journal. A few weeks...(8)...later and here is the start. An added benefit of being late = more pictures to show!
I've started off with the Dry Start Method (DSM) primarily because I wanted to develop strong carpet roots for the hemantius cuba (baby dwarf tears), and dwarf hair grass. Ontop of this - at the start of this project my basement had nothing but a concrete floor. With the basement still under construction - the goal is to have it completed by the end of April to allow for the first true fill of the tank.
For the dry start method I have been using a 6 hours photoperiod with 3 T5HO's (light fixture purchased from Catalina). Rather than spray the plants down everyday I have been using a simple water bottle humidifer. The humidifer turns on for 30 minutes a day. This has kept the humidify high, and no pools of water forming.
The cabinet build started a week after the DSM. NOTE: I am the far from being a carpenter - but I wanted to have DIY project on the go outside of basement construction - and something to help pass the time while I wasn't able to fill the tank.
I do have a list of equipment, substrate, etc and I'll include that all prior to the inital fill. Equipment list will likely show up when I have alll the equipment in place within the cabinet.
Enjoy and wish me luck!
Here is an old picture of the growth, the scape remains unchanged. I'm unhappy with the left hand side, it looks unnatural. I really like what I have circled in green, but the entire red areas a whole doesn't fit right. Any suggestions are appreciated (Pic in lower post)
