RWMallery's 5.5 Betta kingdom

Hello everyone this is my first post here but not my first tank. Ive had fish for about 7 or 8 years now, but not always planted tanks. This is probably my favorite planted tank that ive had. But anyway onto the goods!

The tank itself is very simple, 5.5 AGA from walmart with a 10-20 aqueon filter, that I put filter floss and a filter sock so the betta cannot get sucked in. A simple heater. And also a desk lamp the has just a white 15w incandescent bulb. ( I said it was simple!)

Im using flourite as a base layer of substrate and then a layer of fluvals shrimp substrate on top.

Plants:
A few chain swords
Amazon sword
Mryio
Weeping moss

The only inhabitant in this tank is my betta. He is a short fin dragonscale.
And thats pretty much it. Very simple but I like it. Thanks for reading!( as soon as I figure out how to post pictures, ill do that too lol)

Thanks! Its doing very well too and my betta is loving all of the plants! Lol
The myrio is seriously growing about .25 inches a day. I have to trim alot or the tank grows out of control!

Love the tank. The effect of it all growing from the pieces of DW is amazing. Keep it up!

Sorry everyone, well maybe 2 days ago my betta looked like he was flared around the gills. I thought nothing of it. Just he was mad, but today when I turned the light on he passed.
But other than that everything is doing fine. Ill post a few pictures in a little.

Heres my question, should I go with another betta? Or maybe cherry shrimp? Just looking for suggestions. Thanks everyone for the awesome comments!

EDIT: the black thing in front of the light is just there so my phone actually picks up the tank amd not just the bright light.
