Result of my addiction- 40B Build

Video as of 3/24/13:

Hey folks, i'm just making this to keep track of my progress on this tank. I got into this hobby not too long ago and started out with a regular 10G and went from there. It quickly grew on me and before I knew it, I was at the LFS waaaaay too often. Now i'm just plain addicted to it and had to have a bigger set up hence this 40 breeder!

Found the tank on craigslist for a steal, came with an Emperor 400 filter that had pretty much never been taken care of, a 100W Ebo Jager heater, some substrate and a few hardscape items. I got it home, cleaned the h*ll out of it and set it up and to my dismay, the Emperor 400's motor was basically shot. This didn't upset me too much as it gave me a reason to start getting new equipment for it!

I went out and bought a Fluval Aquaclear 110 filter (wanted a canister but it's a bit out of my budget right now) but I was VERY surprised at the quality and performance of the AC 110, I couldn't be happier! I also picked up a glass top for the tank and order a 36" Finnex Fuge Ray which should be here tomorrow (didn't go with the Ray2 because I'd prefer running pressurized CO2 with it and I'm only able to run DIY for now).

This weekend I'll be building a stand for the tank and getting it situated in the living room then moving everything from the 10G over to the 40B.

On to the pictures!

Tank with the POS filter and versa top.

The first AC110 I bought I had to drive a town over to exchange it for a new one

The working filter, I absolutely freakin LOVE this thing. Look at that water flow!

Threw my 10G hood on top for fun along with a few of my Danios. Those rocks are in no way a scape, just placeholders for now.

This is my 10G that contains everything I'm bringing over to the 40B. The 10 will be converted into a hospital tank.

I'll be making a trip to the LFS this weekend as well to stock up on more plants. I am also expecting some of the BEST guppies I've ever seen from Artbystef who's done wonders with breeding them and some trimmings from DarkCobra. Some of the nicest people I've met through these forums.

I'll update as I go and please feel free to post comments, concerns and words of wisdom, thanks.

Makes me jealous, my 40B is sitting in my bedroom empty awaiting a stand and...well, funding. I think you swung me over in favor of the AC110, too, at least to start. I have an AC50 running on my 20 long already, so I may be a little biased.

I was a bit weary of it at first but man is this thing awesome! You won't regret it if you decide to get one.

Got my package today! Lighting is taken care of now but the only thing I'm worried about is excessive light refraction from the condensation build up on my versa top, has anyone had issues with this?

Stand will be done this weekend, I'll update as I go!

Time for pictures

Sorry, I was being tackled by my dog during that last photo

Man I'm digging the light I may have to go with that instead of buying another t5 model.

Nice start. I'm doing something similar with a 20L. I've got a Fugeray 30" and a AC70

Very nice! Shoot me a link to your journal if you have one, I'd like to check that out.

You really should! The price point is in the same ballpark, no cost of bulb replacements and the lighting is absolutely gorgeous. What I'm most impressed with though is how evenly the light is spread throughout the entire tank.

Also, the moonlights at night look SO cool

Yes sir!! I plan to keep more of a journal with this next one. All I need is a light, plants, and a little more hardscape. Sounds easy when you just type it out.

Haha I know the feeling. I'm on a tight budget so I'm living off pasta and chips for a bit so I could buy the Finnex :P
