Ok, I treated the fungus today with a dilute solution of 3% H2O2 according to the instructions here:

http://www.using-hydrogen-peroxide.c...-peroxide.html

Although it didn't mention frequency of treatment. I'll just reapply each day the fungus persists and see if that takes care of it.

Week 5 update:

Good news: After three days of spraying the H2O2, the fungus died away.

The rest of the plants are looking pretty good. MS is sending up new leaves all over the place, HC is growing in slowly, and the UG is filling in well and staying healthy.

I've pulled out three tiny snails that appeared after I started the H2O2 treatment, but I haven't seen any more so far.

However, I have noticed a couple of other mystery plants that must have hitchhiked into the tank somehow.

One kind of looks like a moss?

Not sure about the other.

Does anyone know what they could be? I'm tempted to leave them in there to see what happens.

Quick update: week... 13?

Been pretty busy and haven't updated the journal in a while.

Tank's still in dry mode. HC is taking FOREVER to fill in. UG and MS look pretty good.

Looking at filling maybe week of 6/17. Stay tuned for an update around then.

Oh, yeah. Still don't know what that plant by the rock is... any ideas? Closeup pic below

Looking great. I don't know what the plant is but I would yank it. The growth is looking awesome, excited to see this filled.

It [the mystery plant] doesn't look like it's aquatic. Probs should take it out.

Nice UG growth! That's why I like it, UG doesn't seem to be as 'sickly' as HC, it looks thicker, brighter, and better! Keep up the good work.

How I feel about non-planted aquariums.

I added the wood I've been soaking and couple more plants to the tank this week (fissidens - tied on to the driftwood, flame moss - base of driftwood and large rock)

Wood and moss added:

After letting everything get anchored for a couple of days, I decided to go ahead and fill the tank yesterday. (Also added a dwarf sagittaria)

A couple hours after filling:

I didn't notice the little mushrooms that had sprouted on the wood during dry start (pulled those guys off after the picture)

Happy HC. Hope it fills in the rest of the foreground!

Now I just need to figure out my water change schedule, photoperiod, and fert dosing! (suggestions appreciated)

Oh yeah, and get some fish too .

I'll try to get some better pictures up here too sometime in the near future.

Your tank looks great! You've given me a lot to go research... have you enjoyed the dry start?

Now that you're flooded, take it from me, Keep UG short as possible, maybe trim every other week if possible. Once it starts getting really long and really thick is when it runs into issues, if you keep it short, it will be a lot less hassle in the end. Looking good though!

Yeah, so far I've liked doing dry start - it's a bit more low-maintenance, but also makes one impatient to fill the thing. I hesitate to say it was a total success though until after the tank is really settled in - I'll get back to you on that one.

mythin - I'll watch the UG height, I'd like to keep it pretty well manicured.
