40g b. Soil capped, wood, plants and rocks

Hey folks, I've taken down my old 20g long and started up a 40g breeder tank.

Basically I've moved the 20l into the 40g and added some scape to it.

currently I am running a 4 bulb 36in t5ho from catalina, and injecting co2 and nutrients daily.

I have 2 checkerboard cichlid,
1 SAE
7 Oto
2 Ember tetra
6 Pseudomugil gertrudae
14 b. urophthalmoides
1 ABNP
4 Khuli loaches

Here is a shot of the 20l before I took it down.

then after i moved it over to the 40g

Then I added some wood and rock (next time i will add the rock and wood first )

This tank is still a work in progress!

Heres a shot after I trimmed today, I just took the trimmings and replanted them upfront until I can take them to my local auction.

I took out the tiger hygro, ludwigia X arcuata, rotala, and reinekii*, on the left side.
Then, replaced them with blyxa, hydrocotyle, and a plant im not sure what it is, but was sold to me as mexican oak leaf.

So jealous of that Java Fern bush, I'd kill for one of those in my 40B! Love your set up, perfect color combinations.

can you give details of the substrate you're using?

Sure, I went out to a unused farm field outside of town and got top soil for the base layer of the tank. Then, I put a layer of eco complete. looking back, the eco complete may be a little much because I get a little bit of algae on some of the exposed pieces. The top layer is Tahitian moon.

Very clean layout. How often do you trim to keep the nice shapes? All of my plants turn into leggy monsters.
