48 gallon

48 gallon tank
play sand substrate with root tabs
2x54w t5ho @ 16" with 1 layer of window screen + glass lid, 6700k
1/2 tsp kno3 , 1/8 tsp csm+b, 1/16 tsp kh2po4. dosed every other day water change after 3 doses (about once a week)
fluval 304
injected co2 (3 BPS) with fluval ceramic diffuser. no idea about ppm of co2 ( have a drop check but dont trust the solution)
koralia #1 (425 GPH)
lights on 12+ hours a day.

critters are 1 8" bala shark , 5 neons & rams horn snails

plants are dwarf hairgrass, anubias, java fern, moss balls & duck weed

having some trouble with the hair grass filling in, i think the problem lies with the diffuser (fluval ceramic diffuser) . with my doseing & lighting i would assume that co2 is the lacking variable, any thoughts?

feel free to leave an honest opinion

That looks awesome. I love the scape, its going to look great once everything fills in! That shark looks big, how big is it going to get??
And I really like the two tanks side by side! Salt and freshwater! Which one is easiest to take care of?

thanks, im still waiting for a nice day to go rock hunting. im wanting to build up a pile of rocks on the left side infront of the drift wood and plant the anubias in the cracks of the rocks.

the bala shark is just about 8" long, bought it when it was about 3" roughly 3 years ago. they can reach about 14" fully grown, iv had a few people with very large tanks offer to buy him so when he does out grow , hes already got some where to go.

having the shark in the tank makes things a little more difficult, i cant stock ottos , he eats my ramhorn snails and neons. and he pulls up my dhg when looking for food.

and yeah, loving the side by side tanks. 8' of awsomeness to stare at.
as for witch ones easier, the salty tank has deffinatly been more costly but its easier to wrap you're head around. with salt water you just keep the water as clean & nutriance free as you possibly can.
it seems with planted tanks if you dont have enough nutriance you get algae and if you have to much you get algae ...
but keep in mind the salt tanks just softies & some lps

first 2 picture are before and after i put on a sump, skimmer, phosban reactor & a fuge with cheato. and removed canister filter...

yeah the shark could deffinatly use some buddies, but i alrealy feel kinda bad for having him in such a small tank. dont wanna make it even more crowded.

i was able to go rock hunting and have the rock work just how i want it, but BBA is attacking all my anubias... and my DHG carpet is pretty much a failure, clumps are dying out, floating up and clogging my koralia daily

I feed the mandarins (have a male and female) marine cuisine, blood worms and omega brine shrimp all mixed together and spot feed with the pumps off

i feed the bala shark shrimp pellets and neons lol

ill try to get some updated pictures soon, in the sad state that its in

iv had the female mandarin 1 1/2 years, the male in the picture 1 year

sorry it took so long to get back to ya'll, had a busy summer lol
