ADA 120P - Just started.

So I got the 120P for Christmas and finally got around to getting a stand and setting this baby up. It had been sitting on the floor in one of my spare rooms which is now being taken over by my fiance, who I just moved in. I currently have 50 lbs of silica sand(going to get another) in it, an eheim 2217 filter and some ebay T5HO light(4x64). In the upcoming weeks I plan on getting a CO2 regulator from GLA and some knock off lily pipes from [Ebay Link Removed].
I built the stand for the light with parts from lowes(two finished pieces of pipe, a 90 degree elbow, some hooks and wire), it's not the prettiest but it works!

The current piece of driftwood I have came out of one of my other flora's that I just tore down. I plan on filling this with more driftwood, mostly HC/DHG with some moss on the driftwood. There is a lot of haze in the tank from the silica sand. I went to the LFS today and bought some purigen and filled a HOB filter with polyfill hoping to cut down on the haze sooner.

I am not looking forward to having to dose ferts a lot(im used to the forgiving amazonia but could not afford it yet as I have a wedding to pay for) so if anyone has any tips let me know. I do have dry ferts.

And now on for the show:

and obligatory I've done this before and it turned out okay pic(non linked to save space/bandwidth):

Did you mean that you wanted to grow DHG and HC on the driftwood? Neither will grow in silica sand, AFAIK.

Sand will often compact over time, choking the plant roots. If you stir it up from time to time you should be fine.

Excited to see how this will go.

Received my knock-off lily pipes, drop checker, diffuser and my co2 rig and set it all up!

Now to figure out how I want to scape it!

You may think the light bar doesn't look pretty, but I think it matches very well. I like it!

Does it extend all the way down the stand, or is it attached at self-level?

It looks like your off to a good start with top notch gear, I've never tried to use sand but I have a good tip from one of our club members, white sand is some what hard to keep clean so he places his wood and rock so that the substate behind them is something rich in nutrients like AS but in the front he uses just a a half cup of sand so after it gets dirty he can just vacuum it out and relace it with clean white sand, he say a bag last over a year using this method.

Get some MTS (Malaysian trumpet snails) you will never see them and they will keep the top inch or so of your sand nice and stirred up. I would go with root tabs as well since the sand is nutrient free and DHG grows good root systems.

Get ten times the amount of wood, plant HC on the wood, then stock it with some sort of microfish.

You have a nice start going on with the tank. I can't wait to see more happening to this.

Thanks for the kind words! It seems I have messed up my CO2 regulator. I was changing some things around and valved the tank out and when I valved it back in the outlet pressure shot up to 200 and popped the relief valve...now even with the valve on the regulator backed all the way out it still spikes to 200psi and the relief hisses. Any ideas?

I used white silica sand as well in a small 6gal. I don't have any root feeders in it but if you don't constantly stir up the sand, you will see lots of gas bubbles form. I have MTS as well but they obviously don't do enough since I have to stir up the sand every water change.

Make sure you get the edges of the glass as well because there will be a bacteria film that is hard to get out if you don't.

It extends to about halfway down the stand.
