Talking New 55g setup

Hey, guys! Decided few days ago to convert my current 55g goldfish tank into a planted one

So far I have the following:
On hand:
Tank - 55g AGA
Filter - 5x Aquaclear 110, 2x Fluval 405 (won't be using all obvi, just have them heh)
Decorations - manzanita branches and some sort of other driftwood that insta sinks and stains water fairly heavily with tannis.

On the way:
Lights - Catalina 2xT5 65k bulbs
Substrate - 3x 20lbs Eco Complete
CO2 diffuser - Fluval Ceramic 88g

Still need:
CO2 system - tank, regulator, tubing etc.
Fertilizers
Fish, plants

Here's the picture of the current tank, pretty boring, but can at least see what I have for branches. Hopefully this will look a lot more interesting with plants in there

Still not to sure what to do about the whole CO2 system, but hopefully I will find something soon. For the substrate, aside from the eco complete, I plan to add 20-40 lbs of sand on top as one article here suggested. Filters, I'd rather use the aquaclears, but I understand that they might counteract the CO2 infusion, so will likely plumb the 2 fluvals to the tank.

Also as some background information, I have kept fish tanks for quite a few years now. First big one I had was a 125g oscar tank. which eventually was joined by a 120g tank and converted into a dual tank coral reef system, which I kept for about a year. When I got out of the coral hobby, I set up the 120g tank as a discus tank. You can check it out on my youtube channel here http://www.youtube.com/user/bd1243

Anyways, if you have any suggestions or comments please reply!

Thank you for the input.

Decide to go with Mineralized Soil Substrate. So I got 4 bags of top soil today and started the soaking process. Also got a bag of LawnLime which I understand is dolomite? As well as couple of lbs of potassium chloride from reef supplier locally (aka muriate of potash?), and a chunk of terra cotta clay from ceramics class

All that will be topped off with 60lbs of eco complete and hopefully will produce a good substrate for my tank.

Thanks for looking !

That's what I have with a different tank. I'm very pleased with it.

Your substrate sounds very nice as well!

Cleaned out the 55g yesterday and painted the back black color. All the fish were moved to the 40g tank along with all the wood that I might use in the planted tank. Also did the plumbing for the fluval, leak testing that now -.-

I have a question, with only one of the Fluvals 405 working, would it be enough on the 55g tank or should I add a bit more. My only option is to add an AquaClear 110. Would that cause too much of the CO2 loss if it's just producing a smooth rolling waves without any splashing and bubbles?

Thank you!

Got the lights today. Fixture looks pretty good. Only used ATI and Tek before when I had corals, so will see how Catalina will work out for me now

Last few pieces arrived today. 15lbs co2 tank, co2 tubing, and bunch of different ferts.

Tried sifting the soil I had soaking for a while, it ended up being just sticks and sand. So I went back to Lowes and got two bags of something else. From the description on the bag it sounds like they basically do with it what we do to mineralize top soil. From two bag I sifted out about 5 gallon bucket of wood chips (much better looking than from other top soil, almost like they are half way to decompose themselves) and rest was nice black mud that is a bit grainy and light. Almost like it is done MTS already.

could you make a video of you set up your tank? I will like to see how mushroom compost upholds in a tank also? Maybe it can be the new thing.
