So, my pair have been put on hold and I will pick them up in just under a week. I have attached a photo of the male, who is looking really good. I couldn't get a photo of the female... I can't wait to see his colours when his pH gets to about 4... It is 6 at the moment, same with the female. I have ordered a tank for them, that they should be moving in in a few weeks. I can't find a good pH tester though... I need a good one that reads from 0 or 1-14 in Australia. Its a real pain, but I'm going to keep looking.
I'll keep you posted.
I am looking forward to comparing notes when we both have some
Just set the tanks up, they'll each be in their own 50 liter until my tank for them arrives which is going to be 150 liters really excited for that! Can't quite get the tanks the way I want them, but I have a couple more days to perfect them lol. Really can't wait for Tuesday!
Got the pair today! They're each in their own tank at the moment, I only just released them but they look really good and already trying to eat anything that fits in their mouth lol. I'll get photos up tonight! I'm really happy with the pair! They're beautiful
Here are photos! The top one is my male, and the bottom my female. I love them! Sorry about the photo quality, they were taken by my phone which is the only camera I have... They're still getting settled in but look really happy so far! Really excited, they're separated and can't wait for them to be together and hopefully breed!
I moved my pair into one tank a couple of nights ago and they are doing really well! They stay together and every now and then I see my male presenting himself and his colours to the female. She is still small, so I'm not expecting them to breed. My new tank is ready to be picked up so I can't wait to get that and get them in there! Their pH is at 6 at the moment but will lower it in the big tank and see if my female is ready to breed. What size is she ready?
its more about when she hits puberty than size, and at least with b. splendens, the size at which a female hits puberty can vary drastically.
dont worry, with good food and clean water she'll get there.
Getting the tank in a day or two! So excited! The pair still look really good, I separated them again. I can't wait to move them into the big tank with lower pH because I think they might breed quickly... Or I hope lol. They're eating lots, looking vibrant and showing nice colours.
The tank was filled a while back and they have been settling in for a bit... Anyway, I got home from school today and my male is holding!! Really happy! In a way, unexpected. I'll be interested to see if he holds, but being his first time I don't have much confidence...
