Mine is louder than my computer fan as well, unless my computer fan really gets going, then they are about the same level. My light is also the Salt water example. I just changed the bulbs. I paid $54 per discus I believe.
I wonder if the fans are different between the FW or SW versions, though i cant imagine why they would be.
the fan in it is louder than my computer fans, for reference. i can hear it from the other end of my living room, 15 ft away.
re: discuss - mind if i ask how much they cost? i never see ones so big for sale.
Something ya'll might want to think is replacing those fans for different ones. I had some old PC's and took the cpu fans out and put them in my canopy to cool off the 4X54W and ballasts. I changed those fans out for 2 Gelid silent 9 fans after about 3 days of hearing the "hummmmmmmmmmmm" for 8 hours a day. The new fans barely make any noise unless <3 feet away other than the wooooshhhhh sound.
If your fixture supports 12V (probably 120V, but you can get a cheap wall wort for 5$. Look into something like this for quiet fans.
Wow man! This tank has come along awesomely! Still liking that fixture? I am thinking about either building or sourcing a cheap 75G soon. My 60G is great, except for the 12.5 inch width . I will probably be building the stand though. Anyways, excellent looking discus' you have there as well!
All is well. I have swapped fish a few times and currently have a male German Blue Ram, three Pigeon Blood Discus, a bunch of Sterbi Corey's, A bunch of Otto's, A boat load (technical term) of Ammano and other shrimp, and a bunch of snails.
