I'm planning a school of small corydoras for the sand. I was thinking a focal fish but now I believe I'll go with a school of open water type fish and some shrimp for the "land".

Totally, completely cool. I'm starting to really like the look of a tank with sand.

If your island was made of a darker gravel I think it would look even more realistic as an island.

How'd you get the anubias on the rock?

I can try to find a darker substrate at some point. That gravel was all I had. As for the anubias on the rock....super glue gel.
