OK so I haven't updated this in a while so I figured now was the time. This is What is currently happening with the tank.
I am still waiting on my final set of Items from www.Theshrimplab.com
and don't really have any idea when I will get them. Last update was about a week ago saying the Items had entered the US and were currently being inspected by customs. As a result I have started to use my nano diffuser to get some CO2 into the tank and MAN IS IT UGLY! I really want my inline atomizer so I can get that baby crankin!
I have mixed my first batch of fertz as well and have decieded on using PPS-PRO and referencing MCI to fine tune my fertilizer mix. Here is what I have done with the mix. Using a calibrated 100x0.01g scale my mix consists of
29g - k2so4
30g - kno3
20g - mgso4
6g - kh2po4
Micro - DIY tropica using millers
5g - miller
1.5g 11% dtpa fe
so far tests show 15-20ppm nitrates and .2ppm po4 so I will need to bring that up some as its not in the 10:1 ratio as well as work out my co2 levels.
I have added a bunch of fish as well current stocking list is as follows.
6 x lemon tetra
6 x cardinal tetra
6 x amano shrimp
5 x harlequin rasboras
4 x colombian tetras - these guys might have to go because they seem to be pretty aggressive and that is new for them.
4 x oto's
1 x juv. bushy nose
1 x dwarf gold spot-possibly a bushy nose but I don't think so.
I have MTS in there as well as what seems to be a ton of hitch hiking red rams horns.
So far all the fish are eating well except for one cardinal but they haven't been in the tank for even 24 hours yet. Otos are looking reasonably plump and there is a nice coating a diatoms and GDA right now for them to fatten up on.
The fish are still reasonably timid and hanging out mostly around the drift wood, which is still finishing up curing even after a month soaking with carbon and fairly regular water changes. It has everyone's favorite thing on new drift wood, that nasty snot. I figured I would get some because this is the woods first time in a tank but man its been like 3 weeks and its still going strong. The plecos are starting to nibble at it a little so that is good. The one thing I am really not liking right now is the aggressiveness of the colombian tetras and will need to watch and see how that develops because they may end up back at the petstore.
That is pretty much everything since my last update. Once things start to settle in a little more and I get my final pieces I will post some pictures of the tank inside and out.
