75 Gallon S. rhombeus -- Updated 1/24 -- End of the Road

My 75 gallon was a blackwater tank with lots of driftwood and some floating and emersed plants when it was set up at the old place. I decided that the move would be a good time to do a complete overhaul. Started yesterday around 11 am at our old place and finished cleaning up at the new place around 9:30 last night.

The old setup had play sand substrate with 2 DIY fluorescent spotlight lamps, an Eheim 2217 with the stock intake and spraybar, and a Hydor 300 watt in line heater along with a Hydor Koralia 4 powerhead.

For the new setup, I went with Eco Complete substrate, added a Rena XP2 to go along with the 2217 but replaced the intake with an Eheim intake to match the 2217 -- painted both of the intakes black, and replaced the spraybars with loc line returns. Still running the in line heater and the HK4 and replaced the lighting with a dual T8 fixture and a Coralife dual T5NO.

Plant list so far:

C. balansae
C. wendtii
Sagittaria subulata
Marsilea quadrifolia
Blyxa japonica
Bolbitus heudelotii
Echinodorus 'Kleiner Bar'

I snapped this picture at 10 last night and was exhausted, so you'll have to forgive the poor quality and the cloudy bubble filled water -- I'll get some better pics of the tank and of the whole setup tonight.

Thanks guys

I'm bored and stuck at home waiting out some rain/snow so I can move my shrimp tank over to the new place so I just snapped a couple pics of the equipment and the view from my desk (ignore the scuffs on the stand, it took a beating during the move and needs a fresh coat of paint)...

Power was out here for most of the day but I snapped a few pictures of my Serrasalmus rhombeus tonight -- not the best quality and the fins are a bit rough from the move, but figured I'd post em up...

Where did you move to? I'd like to see your piranha

Also, if you wanna try some other plants let me know.

Hopefully your S. rhombeus gets to be like the one they had at Sea Level for a while (~15" for $500).

I just moved to another place in the same town -- I used to live in the Minneapolis area (Plymouth), but I moved up to lake country a couple years ago. I'm in Pelican Rapids now, it's about 20 minutes from Detroit Lakes.

I would love for this fish to get to 15", but usually if you want one that big, you have to buy them that big -- for some reason captive grown rhoms usually top out around the 12" mark. Sea Level is actually one of the things I miss most about living in the twin cities, I used to be in there multiple times a week and they hooked me up with amazing prices.

I actually got this fish 3 years ago from Sea Level, it came in from their supplier REALLY skinny, it had no fat on it and you could see it's ribs, but I brought it home and it turned into a great looking fish. Here's a pic that was taken at the store a couple days before I brought it home...

It's definitely a mean fish with tons of personality -- I'll try to get some video during feeding time sometime this week.

Gross.

Any good LFS up there? You run tap water in your tanks or do you own an RO/DI?

Yeah, we moved to be closer to family but we hate it... we should be back in the Minneapolis area in the next couple years.

There are no good LFS up here, the closest ones are a bit of a drive and they stock nothing but common fish and no plants -- I order everything online.

Tap water is awful up here, so I have an RO setup.

Some of the plants (especially the dwarf sag) are looking a bit rough after sitting in a bucket for a few days before being planted, but I'm sure they'll bounce back in a couple weeks.

Snapped some better pictures of the tank tonight, first is a FTS, second is the right side, third is the left side, fourth is the middle, and the fifth is just a shot of the fish again...
