[dxiong5] ADA Mini-M Journal

I finally got around to collecting some things for this tank besides dust. This was my first ADA tank, had it running for a couple months, then took it down for a move. I promise to keep up with this journal, unlike my other ones

Tank:
- ADA Mini-M (32 cm x 22 cm x 26 cm, ~ 20 liters ~ 5.5 gallons)

Lighting:
- Archaea 27 watt 10K Fluorescent

Filtration:
- ZooMed 501 with custom made acrylic filter pipes by OneFang

Substrate:

- ADA Aquasoil I

Plants:
- Hemianthus callitrichoides
- Eleocharis belem

Hardscape:
- Manzanita wood
- Locally collected stones

CO2 (maybe, debating which to get):
- ADA System 74
- Pierce System

Fauna:
- Probably Crystal Red Shrimp

--------------------

Preliminary scape:

I'm leaning more towards a rock-only/Iwagumi scape and will probably save the wood for my 60P.

A little mineral powder and Shirakura Chi-Ebi:

3L bag of ADA Aquasoil I:

Playing with the slope:

Final scape, took out the wood and played around with different slopes:

The rocks are a bit small, but with HC and Belem being relatively low-growing plants, I hope most of the rocks will still show.

I still have to pick up some new tubing and media for the filter. The plants are growing in a 10 gallon tank right now and are doing well; hopefully by the end of the week I will have this tank running.

Good start so far!

Personally, I'd save the wood for another tank and go out and collect bigger (taller) rocks for a full iwagumi layout.

Thanks for the suggestion Tony. I'm trying to remember where exactly I got the rocks...some bigger ones would be nice. But it is winter here and everything is covered in snow/frozen, maybe I'll try a landscape store.

^^^ Looks good, would love to have a mini M some day
For Co2 you might also consider Fluval system.

Sorry for the lack of updates; my camera broke so I'm currently saving for a new one, perhaps an entry-level DSLR.

I've been battling BGA and the AquaSoil is leeching lots of tannins. I don't remember my other tanks with AquaSoil being like this - will keep up water changes to hopefully clear it up.

For CO2, I'm currently using my 5lb. pressurized system since I didn't set up my ADA 60-P yet. I kept the rocks relatively the same and planted HC in the foreground, Eleocharis belem in the back left, and downoi in the back right.

I didn't have a camera while it was up (my Sony Cybershot p&s broke during that time), and the tank eventually became algae infested, so I tore it down.
Here's how it looks today, recently planted with some Cyprus helferi from Speedie, and a lone blyxa to see how it'll do in this tank.

Not sure if I'll keep it like this...that rock in the middle is kind of throwing it off, it just looks different...

Custom-made, just for me
They were designed to hold a sponge prefilter to prevent shrimp from getting sucked up. The upturn on the intake helped keep the sponge on.
