My betta died the other day [emoji17] I found him on the table behind the tank with some scales missing on his head. I have no idea how he hurt himself, and he only lived a few hours after I found him. I'm done with fish for a while... especially personable ones that I can get emotionally attached to.
This tank has been set up and cycled for a couple of months, so I decided to make it a shrimp tank.
This is my first time keeping RCS, I've only had ghosts before and I can't help but to compare. I'm so used to shrimp dying in the first few days I can't belive all of the cherries are still kicking. Especially since I don't think any of them are full grown. Some are very small and may still be juveniles.
Specs:
10 gallon glass tank from Petco.
Aqueon hood with full spectrum grow light.
Preset heater.
Aquaclear 20 filter, with flow turned down, filter floss over the intake, and I'm using Seachem Matrix as my media instead of what came with it.
CaribSea FloraMax mixed with Seachem flourite black sand for substrate.
Dosing Flourish comp, Excel, API Leaf Zone.
Flora:
Java fern (3-4 types)
Java Moss (way too much)
Crypts, wendetii I think.
Amazon Swords
Wysteria
Hygro ferns
Ludwigia, narrow leaf (I think)
2 types of Anubias
I had more species but I took them out. Trying to keep it simple and with some focus. Also, I have no idea what to do with the moss yet. I just have it sitting in clumps for now. Scaping is very much an ongoing process.
Fauna:
12 cherry shrimp.
3-4 ghost shrimp, the last few remaining from when I set it up. I belive they have been dying of old age and I won't be getting more once they are all gone.
10 or so MTS
8 ramshorns
1 horned Nerite (Tony. Hornless)
1 black racer Nerite (Gordon. Currently hibernating)
1 large bladder snail (Truck. He gets around)
Parameters:
Temp: 78f
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 0
PH 7.8
GH 100
KH 50
TDS N/A. Still need a tester.
Just using tap water with Prime. I'll probably only ever keep RCS. Not interested in shrimp so sensitive they die if you sneeze on the tank.
Ok, now for pics.
Full shot. Thread title was not a lie.
My two favorite shrimp. A nice solid red female with eggs, and a male with red and white markings.
Same two hanging out on the heater. They seem to like each other.
Close-ups of these two.
The back right corner seems to be a popular hang out spot.
Truck cleaning my driftwood.
Last pic I took of my betta. RIP little buddy.
Thanks for looking. I'll try to update regularly.
