Post Cheap DIY Potassium Source!

I have been searching stores (non internet or mail order) to buy potassium from. I have come across one really promising and economical source, but I have never heard of anyone in this hobby using it.

Potassium in the form of Potassium chloride is readily and cheaply avialable at home improvement stores as water softener salt. In that form it is really really cheap, lifetime supply for $11 (works out to 28 cents per pound)!!!! According to specs it is 99.1% KCl. Do you think it would be a good idea to use this as a source of potassium, or is there some reason no one does this?

I dont know about using it as a sole source, as many also dose KNO3. But KCL has been widely used in the past, nothing new. But many suspect the chlroine in it inhibits growth and many have had better growth using something like K2SO4 for additional K. But i suppose cheaper is more appealing to many.
