water issues???? help before I get fish

My nitrates are around 60ppm nitrites 0ppm hardness is about 50ppm alkalinity about 80ppm and ph is around 7.2 or maybe a little above. Are water changes alone gonna fix this? What else should I do?

It depends what the water out of your tap is like.

If your tap water is high in nitrates, water changes will not really eliminate them.

Having plants will definitely help.

Are those the parameters in the tank? What makes the nitrate so high?
NO3 = 80 ppm is pretty high. Some fertilizers can do this. Are you adding fertilizer or have root tabs in the tank?
GH 50 ppm- Fairly soft water, well suited to most community fish like Tetras, Rasboras, Barbs and similar. Not so good for most live bearers.
KH 80 ppm- A reasonable value. Enough to stabilize the pH in the right range for most soft water fish.
pH 7.2 is great for most community fish. Stable is more important than the actual value. Does it maintain 7.2? Or perhaps cycle around this value on a daily basis as the plants use the CO2.

Please test your tap water and post those values.

Test with all the tests you have, right out of the tap, then put some tap water in a glass and let it sit out 24-48 hours and test the pH again. Sometimes pH can change when water is exposed to the air.

Nitrate and nitrite 0ppm
Gh is 0ppm also
Chlorine .5
Kh about 20
Ph about 6.6 or so

That's right out of tap. Put some aside to rest

Oh ya,I did put a root tab in a couple weeks ago.don't know the brand, got them off ebay site sells fish stuff has 100% rating. Also I've been cycling the tank for like two months now.
