Ammonia spike

Set up a tank that I moved to my house from college. I did a large water change and I now have an ammonia issue. I'm reading .5 - .6 ppm. Nitrites and nitrates are 0. What's with the ammonia spike? The tank had a Cory cat, but Its been taken out a few days ago. Only plants now. What can I do about this? I'm looking to add a betta fish. Wait it out?

Re: Ammonia spike

Looks like your bacteria died during the move. I would wait for the tank to cycle again before adding new fish.

I'm with OVT, it's gonna have to cycle again. I'm in the same boat, just moved back from college last Thursday and lucked out (0 ammonia or nitrites.. whew!). But, some of your bacteria may have survived, so your cycling process may be shorter, but a cycle nonetheless. Also, have you reintroduced your cory, is it in a different tank, what is its residency status so to speak?
