Too dangerous to put fish back in?
Monday night I took down and re-scaped my 29G. I moved all the fish to a 10G and they have been in it for the past two nights. My plan was to move them all back into the tank tonight.
I question doing it now after testing the water. Nitrite and Ammonia check out but the nitrate reads 5-10ppm.
Here are my thoughts and please correct me if I'm wrong!
I took out water from the 29G and it's only 30-40% full right now. The water in the 10G (where the fish are) is from the 29G (so their original water) so I planned on putting that back in there, plus I have 5G of RO water I can put in, and I'd top it off with treated tap water. With the Nitrates reading 5-10ppm, would removing all that water (from the 29G) and replacing it with original and new water calm it down enough to make it safe enough to put fish back into tonight? Or do I need to wait more time before putting the fish in? And, if so, how long and what else do I need to do to lower Nitrates?
So very sorry if that was confusing, but I would really appreciate some feedback tonight.
Thanks in advance!
