In my small tank I had a PH spike the other day, I am still really confused about this one though. At first it was up around 8.4-8.5, after some emergency water changes with R.O water I got it down around 7.0... over several days to reduce stress on fish.

The tank is not new, it has been established for a long time... which is why this is so hard for me to figure out. It has sand/gravel substrate, and I do weekly water changes with a mix of RO water and Tap water... because my tap water hardness is off the charts. As of now the water parameters in the tank are PH: 7.8 KH: 71.6 GH: 107.4

1) Why does the PH keep raising... I can not keep doing water changes every other day to keep it down.

2) What may have cause this?

Any help would be great.. my tanks have been frustrating me because they both went though unexplained changes... like sabotage or something

Have you added any rocks or other decorations to the tank? Is it possible your pH test kit is old? Or is it possible your pH probe needs to be replaced or calibrated? What is the kH in the tank? What is the substrate?

Like I said, nothing has changed... it has been stable for several months.

It has sand/gravel substrate, and I do weekly water changes with a mix of RO water and Tap water... because my tap water hardness is off the charts. As of now the water parameters in the tank are PH: 7.8 KH: 71.6 GH: 107.4

No, I never did. It seems to be fairly stable now. But it fluctuates some.
