Lighting for a 120 gallon

I'm planning on starting a standard 120 gallon (4x2x2) tank for primarily crypts. The substrate will be fine gravel /coarse sand over soil. I don't want to use co2 on this tank.

Will T-12 bulbs (4-6) be sufficient lighting or should I go with T-8 bulbs? Walstad says that T-12's shouldn't be used on anything deeper than 18 inches. I'm already using T-5 bulbs on my reef tank and I want this tank to be cheaper to run. Yes, I would not need as many T-5 bulbs, but they are about $20 each whereas I can get T-12 bulbs for substantially less.

If you can go with T8s that would be a substantial improvement over the T12s.

If you can afford $150 for a fixture I'd strongly encourage you to consider the Catalina Solar T5HO:
