50g low light/low tech planted tank.
This is my first planted tank. I'm aiming for a low maintenance, no Co2, densely planted tank.
So far I have a 50g rectangular tank, a Fluval 406 canister filter, and I just ordered a current USA LED Plus size 36-48 for lighting.
For my soil I plan on mixing a 9L bag of ADA Aquasoil with a 20Lb bag od Eco-Complete and some natural colored or black small gravel. If I need more depth I may top it off with some Flourite Dark.
We have talked about many different fish but are leaning towards a few kinds of Tetras and maybe a couple of gouramis, a bristlenose, some Nerite snails, possibly some red crystal shrimp and hatchet fish.
The tank will be put together over the next few months as funds allow. I want to have the tank planted and established for a month or so before I put fish in it.
I've never done a planted tank before and would appreciate any comments or advice.
Particularly I'm looking for a good low light ground cover type plant(s) to ad plant biomass to areas that I still want to have a little negative space. some plants with long slender leaves would be cool as well as maybe some taller grass type plants in a few areas. I'm about to go around and ask at the local shops but I trust other hobbyists more than the people trying to sell me stuff.
