low tech 20 high
I have been trying to figure out what to do w/ my 20g high that has been setup for 3 yrs (and that I recently turned into a betta surority tank) and I thought that a low tech tank, using some of the factors that an el natural tank would might be nice. I am planning to have 1.5-2" of peat on the very bottum of the tank, covered by gravel on top. the lighting will be 20-40 watts of light, with no CO2 added (at least not in the near future).
plants will be a large sword or red tiger lotus as the foucas plant (leaves will be allowed to reach the surface) with a carpet of dwarf sag or pygmy chain sword and a forest of large valls or something like that. I am planning to have a group of SAE or ottos and a trio of young BN plecs be the algae squad (already have the plecs, will only add SAE or ottos if needed).
other fish stocking will be a large group of female bettas (no more then 12, probably more around 8 or 10 which will be a big change from th 3 I have now!) with a group of 6 cherry barbs and 6 harlequen rasboras. stocking will be heavy, but I have actually kept more in the tank at times, and nothing (except the plecs) really produces much waste.
