Started setting up my 125G native tank

I started to convert my old 125G Goldfish tank over to a planted Potomac River Sunfish tank. I ordered two Finnex Ray2, should give plenty of light at only 18" to substrate. no Co2. Put in my STS substrate last night.

Some spec's are...
125G
2 Finnex 36" Ray2s
STS substrate at 2.5" deep
1 Rena XP3 canister
1 SunSun 304b canister
plants-
Vallisneria americana
fish-
1 Longear Sunfish
1 Pumpkinseed Sunfish
1 Redbreast Sunfish
1 Bluegill
and a small school of larger shiners (big enough not to be food)

Excited to see some pics too - I kept a tank of sunfish many years ago... they're pretty sweet fish. Such little jerks though.

Thanks, I will post of pictures as soon as possible. I already have a longear in a 65, he will be moved into the 125 when its done. The idea behind the tank is bring a piece of home. I live in FL now, but was born and raised most of my life right on the potomac river. My fondest memories are on that river, be it sitting on the dock looking at all the sunfish or minnows, or skiing, or just looking at the beautiful view.

I have a quick question. My lights are not going to be here until next week, but my vals arrive tomorrow. What should I do? plant them and use a dual 48" T8 and two 36" T8's? Float them?

Beginning picture

Just started my 125G Potomac River Sunfish/Shiners tank planted with Vallisneria americana, substrate is Safe T Sorb. Planted my Val last night, still waiting on my Finnex Ray2's, so just using my two 36" T8's and a 48" dual T8. Going to let the plants root firmly then add the fish.

It looks nice. If this was my tank I would add a big piece of driftwood in there. Do you have a heater in there? Are you going to get the shiners from a bait shop?

P.S. I work in the fishing department of a large outdoors store and think this is very cool.

Thank you! I lived on the Potomac River and family still has a house there, I visit ever summer. This is just bring a piece of home to my living room in FL. The river is only high 70's most of the summer, so no heater. With lights, the tank stays about 76-78 degrees. I really thought about a nice piece of driftwood, but Wanted the most available swimming area for the fish, and once the Val takes hold, it will fill the whole tank if I let it.
Nothing is coming from pet stores or bait shops. The minnows will be Bluntnose minnows and the Shiners will be Spotfin Shiners, all ordered from breaders online. Same with the sunfish.

Thank you! Check out my tank journal for more pics of the the fish. I have baby redbreast, another longear, pumkinseed and a green growing out too. I have a bluegill coming too. Then my fish stock is complete.
