Non-co2 tank substrate choice

im planning new tank and stuck on substrate choice.
tank will be:
no co2
excel dosed
water column fert dosed
root tab dosing is ok if needed.
DIY led lightning as strong as needed
root feeding plants mostly and moss

so far ive used inert substrate with several root tab types including osmocote but havent been exactly happy with it.

what substrate would you suggest for me to try?

Dirt tank. Tried it on a 10G, starting up a 40B with it as well. I am very happy with it.

I agree, potting soil/topsoil capped with sand or gravel and you wouldn't have to dose any of those ferts...
