Rescaping my 20 gallon- trying to go low tech

Hi all im rescaping my 20 gallon tank once my eco complete comes in from fedex LOL.

My stock is as follows:

6 black neon tetra
8 neon tetra
4-6 ghost shrimp
1 betta

As for plants I have all live plants:

A bunch of amazon swords
two java fern
two banana plants
some moss (im debating pitching it, all its been doing is gathering algea for me)

I want to go low tech with root tabs (using osmocote plus currently), no c02, and just some liquid ferts. I want to have to take care of it but not to the point where i need to be so wrapped up in it that it takes away my whole weekends. I am fine with spending a few hours doing upkeep of the tank.

Please let me know what i need to do or start doing to get to a low tech tank.

Below is my tank currently (eco complete will be here tomorrow or the day after)

Thanks.

Your 20 G

Hello T...

You'll get several definitions of "Low tech". For me, low tech means maintaining a tank with just the basics. That includes, standard gravel, an HOB filter, a heater, a florescent light and a few low light plants and no added ferts. A tank that has more "bells and whistles" than this list isn't really low tech.

You have some high end gravel plans and plants, like the Banana lily, that will need stronger light unless you can find a way to float it. I attach it to a small piece of driftwood with a thin rubberband. This gets the leaves close to the light source.

Anyway, a 20G will tank no time to maintain, so don't worry about spending a whole weekend working with it.

Well I have API leaf zone and some liquid carbon. I also have a micro and macro feet set that follows pps pro method I stopped dosing the micro and macro and started the leaf zone in its place...
